NFNL - D3 Proposal response

28 Feb 2018 by Benjamin Charles

Dear Clubs,
(This was sent to all D1, 2 7 3 presidents)

As most of you would be aware, the Lalor FC has been experiencing a number of challenges that may prevent them from fielding a team in 2018. The NFNL has been working very closely with the Lalor FC over the past 4 – 5 months to assist them to field Senior and Reserves sides in 2018. The status of the Lalor FC was discussed last Wednesday night at the Div 2 Presidents meeting, and the general feeling amongst the clubs in attendance was very supportive, and offers of assistance have since been made by Div 2 clubs to help them survive.

On the back of recent publicity about the Lalor FC and what division they will play in this year, to avoid any confusion, I would like to clarify a few points.

The number one priority for the NFNL is for the Lalor FC to survive, and to be an active affiliate of the NFNL this year, and for many years to come. This is our primary focus, but we are also very mindful of other considerations for Div 2 & 3 clubs at this precarious time of the year. This matter will be discussed with all Div 3 Presidents tomorrow night when we meet.

The NFNL has set a deadline of 12pm Friday 9th March for the Lalor FC to have a sufficient number of players registered to field two senior teams this year, keeping in mind that numbers must be at the appropriate level to absorb injuries and unavailability’s, particularly during the mid season period when numbers get tight.

As of today I can now confirm that I have received an official request from the Lalor FC to play this year in the Div 3 Competition. This request is subject to them having a sufficient number of players registered for this season.

Any changes to competition structures at this time of year is not ideal, and some clubs may feel inconvenienced if the Lalor FC does or does not play in their competition this year, but as I mentioned earlier, it is more important that are playing rather than not.

The NFNL Board will make a final determination on the request from the Lalor FC, all options will be explored, and the outcomes will be communicated to all clubs as soon as possible.

Finally, If any club has excess player numbers, I encourage you to consider speaking with them about the possibility of helping the Lalor FC during this very tough time.

Regards,

Peter McDougall
